Walmart counters Amazon's 1-day shipping plan - no membership required

In response to Amazon's plan to make 1-day shipping the default option for Prime members, Walmart wasted no time announcing their own 1-day shipping plans. NextDay delivery will start in Phoenix and Las Vegas, with immediate plans to expand to Southern California and continue to roll out over the coming months, eventually reaching approximately 75% of the U.S. population this year, including 40 of the top 50 major metro areas.

NextDay delivery is free for eligible orders of $35+ and will include up to 220,000 of the most frequently purchased items like diapers, household items, toys and electronics, with more items being added to the queue. Items will be shipped from Walmart warehouses, not stores. So eligible items will vary by location and all items in your cart must be available in the same warehouse in order to receive them in the same shipment the next day.

Walmart already began offering 2-day shipping to keep up with Amazon two years ago. And they offer something Amazon can't - same-day pickup in their stores, which has been a very popular choice with today's consumers. And unlike Amazon Prime, it's free.
